Autumn - the year's last, loveliest smile. -William Cullen Bryant
The first official day of Fall was about 2 weeks ago, but it hasn't truly felt like Fall until today. October 1st is the unofficial start to the fall season, for me anyway.
Living in the South, and especially growing up in the Lowcountry, the overbearing heat and humidity can linger on until well into September. But, pay no mind to what the temperature is. The calendar says "October" now! Bring out the pumpkins, warm spiced cider, and Halloween decorations!
I have some great recipes on the radar for the next few weeks, including:
- pumpkin bread with chocolate chips from Love & Lemons,
- persimmon salad with baked goat cheese from Yummy Supper,
- apple and honey galette from The Forest Feast,
- this green apple margarita from Kitchen Confidante,
- pumpkin pie chocolate bars from A Cup of Mascarpone, and
- this AMAZING looking spiced Mexican hot chocolate...just to name a few.
Plus, we joined our first CSA this fall with Small City Farm.
For those of you (like me a few months ago!) who don't know what a CSA is, let me try to explain with my limited knowledge. So CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It means that you pay up front for a certain number of weeks or months worth of produce from a farm. You don't know exactly what and how much will be in your share until the vegetables and fruit are harvested, and I think the amount of food you receive can vary depending on environmental factors that affect the growth of the veggies and fruits.
It's like what my son's preschool teacher says, "You get what you get and you don't have a fit." I'm so interested to see what will be included. I welcome the challenge to create new and delicious recipes from our CSA share. Our first pick up is next week. Stay tuned for even more delectable Fall treats!
What are the things you're looking forward to this season?
