In my mizuna and arugula with goat's milk feta recipe, I mentioned we picked up our first CSA share of the season from Small City Farm. Not only was it a good share, but it was also a fun visit. In the midst of picture perfect Carolina-blue-skies, 70 degree weather, I got to see chickens! The farm itself is full of charm - the kids were sleeping so we didn't get a chance to see much (well, they didn't see anything). Perhaps next week they'll stay awake for the ride. So, check it out! It was a giant goodie basket full of treats. In nearly 48 hours, we will have cooked or consumed most of it. I should note that we have a family of very healthy eaters.
If you are curious, here's a rundown of what we picked up. Quite an eclectic mix, right? I think its taste is exceeded only by the rich variety of its lush, deep color.
Our first CSA share included:
- mixed herbs - basil, dill, parsley? (have to check)
- Arkansas traveler tomatoes
- sweet peppers
- serrano (hot!) peppers
Perhaps I shouldn't admit that I didn't know what a couple of these produce items were until today. Now, I am hooked.
Have you ever participated in a CSA? If so, what did your share look like?
